FAITH POSSESSES GOD’S PROMISES

Everything we receive from God is by promises, and for the promises to come to pass, we must have faith. Thus having faith is important. God’s Word plus faith brings us into the provision of the promise. The Bible says God “has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). We must have faith in the promises of God if we are to receive all that He has given us through His promises.
Without faith, you will not profit from the Word. The Bible says, “For indeed the Gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience” (Hebrews 4:2, 6). Knowing the promises of God in your head only or being able to quote them, will not “profit” you. But, when you have faith in God’s Word and obey it, you can experience the provision of the promise, be it for healing, protection, victory or any other needs.
HOW TO RESPOND TO GOD’S PROMISES BY FAITH
God promised the Israelites land that will be theirs (Joshua 1:1-9). Until today, the nation of Israel is still fighting for some of the land promised them by God in the Old Testament days. The reason being the Israelites failed to obey completely all that God asked them to do.
To obey, you need to be strong and courageous. Walking by faith in obedience is challenging. Your mind understands the natural or the things of this world. The Word of God and the things of God can be understood by your spirit. Obeying God requires strength and courage because other people may not understand why and what you are doing. But God’s ways are better than man’s ways.
To be strong means not to go soft or weak or lame when standing on what God said. To be courageous means to get a hold of, have a firm grip and do not let go; stay with it regardless of whatever happens. You can be strong and courageous because you can trust God who cannot lie. The Bible says, “That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18).
Have faith because the Bible says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him” (Hebrews 11:6) and “Faith without works is dead” (Hebrews 2:17). Faith is a walk. Faith is doing what God calls us to do. Faith is obedience. When there is no faith, there is disobedience.
THE ACT OF FAITH IS AN ACT OF PARTNERSHIP WITH GOD FOR GOD’S PROMISES TO COME TRUE
God gives to us in promise form and for the promise to be a reality, it has to be mixed with faith. To have faith is to be strong and courageous and obey God. And as you obey, the miracle happens.
The crossing of the Jordan River was a miracle. When the Israelites were getting ready to go over into the Promised Land, they faced the Jordan River which was overflowing. Being harvest time, the river was flooded. God’s promise to Joshua was, “And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap” (Joshua 3:13). The children of Israel obeyed God. “The feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water” (Joshua 3:15). And God did the miracle. “The waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho. Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan” (Joshua 3:16-17). The children of Israel acted in faith and obeyed God’s promise. As they stepped into the Jordan River, God caused the water to be cut off, so they were able to cross the Jordan River on dry ground!
A New Testament example of a miracle was when Peter walked on water (Matthew 14:22-33). Jesus told His disciples to get into the boat and go before Him to the other side of the lake and He went up a mountain and prayed. When it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves. Jesus went to His disciples by walking on the sea. When they saw a figure coming, they thought it was a ghost. They became afraid and Jesus spoke to them, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). And Peter responded and asked, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water” (Matthew 14:28). Jesus said to Peter, “Come. And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me!’” (Matthew 14:29-30). Peter started to walk on water because he was mixing faith with the Word. But when he began to doubt, he sank. Nobody walks on water! Without faith, your miracle will not happen. The Bible says, “And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased” (Matthew 14:31-32).
God’s promises come to pass when you step out of your boat in faith and obey His Word. The Bible says, “He who is willing and obedient will eat of the fruit of the land” (Isaiah 1:19). Do not lose courage and faith. Do not stop believing. Faith is a partnership with God. Your part is to walk in faith and obedience. Be a partner with God and let your faith possess God’s blessings or promises.

IMAN MEMILIKI JANJI TUHAN

Segala sesuatu yang kita terima dari Tuhan adalah dengan janji dan agar janji itu terwujud, kita harus memiliki iman. Jadi memiliki iman itu penting. Firman Tuhan berserta iman membawa kita ke dalam pembekalan janji. Alkitab berkata bahawa Tuhan “telah menganugerahkan kepada kita janji-janji yang berharga dan yang sangat besar, supaya olehnya kamu boleh mengambil bagian dalam kodrat ilahi” (2 Petrus 1: 4). Kita harus memiliki iman dalam janji-janji Tuhan jika kita ingin menerima semua yang telah Dia berikan kepada kita melalui janji-janjiNya.
Tanpa iman, kamu tidak akan mendapat keuntungan dari Firman Tuhan. Alkitab berkata, “Karena kepada kita diberitakan juga kabar kesukaan sama seperti kepada mereka, tetapi firman pemberitaan itu tidak berguna bagi mereka, karena tidak bertumbuh bersama-sama oleh iman dengan mereka yang mendengarnya. Jadi sudah jelas, bahwa ada sejumlah orang akan masuk ke tempat perhentian itu, sedangkan mereka yang kepadanya lebih dahulu diberitakan kabar kesukaan itu, tidak masuk karena ketidaktaatan mereka ”(Ibrani 4: 2, 6). Mengetahui janji-janji Tuhan saja atau dapat menghafalnya, tidak akan “menguntungkan” kamu. Tetapi, apabila kamu memiliki iman dalam Firman Tuhan dan mentaatinya, kamu dapat mengalami pembekalan janji, baik itu untuk kesembuhan, perlindungan, kemenangan atau keperluan-keperluan lain.
BAGAIMANA MERESPON KEPADA JANJI TUHAN DENGAN IMAN
Tuhan menjanjikan kepada bangsa Israel tanah yang akan menjadi milik mereka (Yosua 1: 1-9). Hingga sekarang ini, bangsa Israel masih memperjuangkan sebahagian tanah yang dijanjikan Tuhan kepada mereka di waktu Perjanjian Lama. Sebabnya adalah kerana orang Israel gagal untuk mentaati sepenuhnya semua yang Tuhan minta untuk mereka lakukan.
Untuk taat, kamu harus kuat dan berani. Berjalan dengan iman dalam ketaatan itu mencabarkan. Fikiran kamu memahami yang semulajadi atau hal-hal di dunia ini. Firman Tuhan dan hal-hal tentang Tuhan hanya dapat difahami oleh roh kamu. Mentaati Tuhan memerlukan kekuatan dan keberanian kerana orang lain mungkin tidak faham mengapa dan apa yang kamu lakukan. Tapi cara Tuhan lebih baik daripada cara manusia.
Menjadi kuat bererti tidak menjadi lembut atau lemah atau lumpuh ketika bersandar di atas apa yang Tuhan katakan. Menjadi berani bererti memegang, memiliki pegangan yang kuat dan tidak melepaskan; tetaplah bersamanya apapun yang terjadi. Kamu boleh menjadi kuat dan berani kerana kamu boleh mempercayai Tuhan yang tidak berdusta. Alkitab berkata, "Supaya oleh dua kenyataan yang tidak berubah-ubah, tentang mana Tuhan tidak mungkin berdusta, kita yang mencari perlindungan, beroleh dorongan yang kuat untuk menjangkau pengharapan yang terletak di depan kita" (Ibrani 6:18).
Miliki iman kerana Alkitab berkata, “Tetapi tanpa iman tidak mungkin orang berkenan kepada Tuhan” (Ibrani 11: 6) dan “Jika iman itu tidak disertai perbuatan, maka iman itu pada hakekatnya adalah mati” (Yakobus 2:17). Iman adalah berjalan. Iman adalah melakukan apa yang Tuhan panggil kita lakukan. Iman adalah ketaatan. Jika tidak ada iman, wujudnya ketidaktaatan.
PERBUATAN IMAN ADALAH SUATU TINDAKAN PERKONGSIAN DENGAN TUHAN AGAR JANJI TUHAN DIGENAPI
Tuhan memberi kita dalam bentuk janji dan agar janji itu menjadi kenyataan, ia harus digabungkan dengan iman. Memiliki iman bererti menjadi kuat dan berani serta mentaati Tuhan. Dan saat kamu taat, mukjizat terjadi.
Penyeberangan Sungai Yordan adalah satu mukjizat. Ketika orang Israel bersiap sedia untuk pergi ke Tanah Perjanjian, mereka menghadap ke Sungai Yordan yang sedang melimpah. Saat musim menuai, sungai itu dibanjiri air. Janji Tuhan kepada Yosua adalah, “Segera sesudah kaki para imam pengangkat tabut TUHAN, Tuhan semesta bumi, berhenti di dalam air sungai Yordan, maka air sungai Yordan itu akan terputus; air yang turun dari hulu akan berhenti mengalir menjadi bendungan" (Yosua 3:13). Umat Israel mentaati Tuhan. “Para imam pengangkat tabut itu mencelupkan kakinya ke dalam air di tepi sungai itu” (Yosua 3:15). Dan Tuhan melakukan mukjizat. “Air yang turun dari hulu melonjak menjadi bendungan, jauh sekali, di dekat Adam, kota yang terletak di sebelah Sartan, sedang air yang turun ke Laut Araba itu, yakni Laut Asin, terputus sama sekali. Lalu menyeberanglah bangsa itu, di tentangan Yerikho. Tetapi para imam pengangkat tabut perjanjian TUHAN itu tetap berdiri di tanah yang kering, di tengah-tengah sungai Yordan, sedang seluruh bangsa Israel menyeberang di tanah yang kering, sampai seluruh bangsa itu selesai menyeberangi sungai Yordan”(Yosua 3: 16-17). Umat Israel bertindak dengan iman dan mentaati janji Tuhan. Saat mereka melangkah ke Sungai Yordan, Tuhan membuatkan airnya terputus, supaya mereka dapat menyeberangi Sungai Yordan di atas tanah yang kering!
Contoh keajaiban Perjanjian Baru adalah ketika Petrus berjalan di atas air (Matius 14: 22-33). Yesus menyuruh murid-muridNya untuk naik ke perahu dan pergi terdahulu ke seberang tasik dan Dia naik ke gunung dan berdoa. Pada waktu petang, perahu sudah berada di tengah laut, diombang-ambingkan ombak. Yesus pergi kepada murid-muridNya dengan berjalan di atas laut. Ketika mereka melihat bentuk manusia datang, mereka fikirkan itu adalah hantu. Mereka menjadi takut dan Yesus berbicara kepada mereka, "Tenanglah! Aku ini, jangan takut!" (Matius 14:27). Lalu Petrus berseru dan menjawab Dia: "Tuhan, apabila Engkau itu, suruhlah aku datang kepada-Mu berjalan di atas air" (Matius 14:28). Kata Yesus kepada Petrus: "Datanglah!" Maka Petrus turun dari perahu dan berjalan di atas air mendapatkan Yesus. Tetapi ketika dirasanya tiupan angin, takutlah ia dan mulai tenggelam lalu berteriak: "Tuhan, tolonglah aku!”(Matius 14: 29-30). Petrus mula berjalan diatas air kerana ia mencampuri iman dengan Firman Tuhan. Akan tetapi apabila ia mula meragui, ia tenggelam. Tiada sesiapa yang berjalan atas air! Tanpa iman, mukjizat kamu tidak akan terjadi. Alkitab berkata, “Segera Yesus mengulurkan tangan-Nya, memegang dia dan berkata: "Hai orang yang kurang percaya, mengapa engkau bimbang?" Lalu mereka naik ke perahu dan anginpun redalah” (Matius 14:31-32).
Janji Tuhan akan digenapi ketika kamu melangkah keluar dari perahu kamu dengan iman dan mentaati FirmanNya. Alkitab berkata, “Jika kamu menurut dan mau mendengar, maka kamu akan memakan hasil baik dari negeri itu” (Yesaya 1:19). Jangan kehilangan keberanian dan keyakinan. Jangan berhenti percaya. Iman adalah perkongsian dengan Tuhan. Bagian kamu adalah berjalan dalam iman dan ketaatan. Jadilah rakan kongsi dengan Tuhan dan biarkan iman kamu memiliki berkat atau janji Tuhan.

神应许供应我们，我们要相信神，才能领受他的应许。因此，信心很重要。我们要相信神的话语才能领受神所应许的供应。圣经上说：“借着这些，他把又宝贵又极大的应许赐给了我们，好叫你们既然逃脱世上因私欲而来的败坏，就可以分享 神的本性。”（彼得后书 1：4）我们一定要有信心，才能领受所有神应许赐给我们的祝福。
人非有信，就不能从神的话语中获益。圣经上说：“因为有福音传给我们，像传给他们一样，只是他们所听见的道，对他们没有益处，因为他们没有用信心与所听见的打成一片。既然这安息还留着要让一些人进去，但那些以前听过福音的人，因为不顺从不得进去；”（希伯来书 4：2，6）当你仅仅知道或只是引用过神的应许，那并不能给你带来什么益处。只有当你相信神的话语并顺服遵行他的道，你才能经历神所应许的供应，包括医治、保守、得胜及其他一切需要。
如何凭信心回应神的应许
神应许赐土地给以色列人。（约书亚记 1:1-9）直到今天，以色列仍在为旧约圣经中神应许赐给他们的土地而争战。因为以色列人没有完全顺服并遵行神所有的命令。
顺服神，你必须刚强壮胆。凭信心服从与主同行并不容易。你的心思意念认识并了解自然的或这个世界的事物。唯有你的灵才能感受并了解神的话语和神的事。顺服神必须刚强壮胆，因为其他人可能不明白，也无法理解你的所作所为。但你要知道，神的道路胜过人的道路。
刚强，指的是坚守神的话语，不软弱也不胆怯。壮胆，指的是牢牢抓着神的话语，无论遭遇什么都紧抓着神的话语。你必能刚强壮胆，因为你所信靠的是绝不说谎的神。圣经上说：“这两件事是不能更改的，因为 神是决不说谎的。因此，我们这些逃进避难所的人，就大得安慰，抓紧那摆在我们面前的盼望。”（希伯来书 6：18）
要有信心，因为圣经上说：“没有信，就不能得到 神的喜悦。”（希伯来书 11：6）“照样，如果只有信心，没有行为，这信心就是死的。”（雅各书 2：17）信心要以行动证明。信心是遵行神的命令。信心是服从。没有信心，也就不会顺服。
凭信配合神，才能领受神的应许
神按着应许赐予我们，我们必须以信心回应，才能让应许成真。信心，就是刚强壮胆地顺服神。你一顺服，神迹就发生了。
约书亚带领以色列人过约旦河就是神迹。当以色列人要进入应许之地时，他们遇见阻碍，约旦河河水暴涨。当时正值收割的季节，河水泛滥。神应许约书亚说：“抬全地之主耶和华约柜的祭司的脚掌一踏进约旦河水里，约旦河的水必被截断，那从上游流下来的水必立起成垒。”（约书亚记 3：13）以色列的子民顺服神。“抬约柜的祭司来到约旦河，他们的脚碰到水边的时候”（约书亚记 3：15）神行了奇事。“水就停住了，那从上游流下来的水立起成垒，在很远的地方，就是在撒拉但旁边的亚当城那里停住；那往下流入亚拉巴海，就是盐海的水完全被截断；于是人民就在耶利哥的对面过了河。抬耶和华约柜的祭司在约旦河中间的干地上站住，等以色列众人都在干地上走过去，直到全国的人都完全走过了约旦河为止。”（约书亚记 3：16-17）以色列的子民凭信心顺服神。他们的脚一踏进约旦河，神便叫水停住，使他们行走在地面上穿越约旦河！
新约圣经中有一个神迹，彼得行走在水面上。（马太福音 14：22-33）耶稣催门徒上船先到对岸去，他独自上山去祷告。到了晚上，门徒的船离岸数公里，被波浪冲击。耶稣在海面上向他们走过去。门徒见他在海面上行走，就以为有鬼，很惊慌。耶稣立刻对他们说：“放心吧！是我，不要怕。”（马太福音 14：27）彼得对他说：“主啊，如果是你，让我在水面上到你那里去。”（马太福音 14：28）他说：“来吧！”彼得就从船上下来，行在水面上，走向耶稣那里去。但他一见风浪就害怕，快要沉下去的时候，就呼叫：“主啊！救我！”（马太福音 14：29-30）彼得在水面上行走，因为他凭信心相信神的话语。当他疑惑时，就沉没了。没有人可以在水面上行走！没有信心，神迹不会发生。圣经上说：“耶稣马上伸手拉住他，对他说：‘小信的人哪，为甚么疑惑？’他们上了船，风就平静了。’”（马太福音 14：31-32）
当你凭信心踏出你的船只，当你遵守神的话语时，神便兑现他的应许。圣经上说：“你们若愿意听从，就必得吃地上的美物。”（以赛亚书 1：19）不要丧胆，也不要丧志。要继续相信。信心就是与神配合。你需要做的只是相信，顺服。与神同行，凭信心领受神的祝福和应许。
