Made New

Calvary Youth Camp 2025

  • Article by Desiree Saw

God’s presence. Friends. Praise and worship. Dancing for the Lord. Fun games and fellowship. These are the ingredients that make a Youth Camp the place to be. The 2025 Youth Camp was a space where youth could encounter God in tangible ways, find a sense of belonging and explore what a life MADE NEW in Christ looks like. The camp’s theme centered around “Made New”, as a declaration for this generation that “in Christ, we are a new creation… The old has gone, BEHOLD, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

On a sunny Monday morning, 180 excited campers met at the Calvary Convention Centre Plaza, anticipating the 2025 Youth Camp, which was held at the Port Dickson Methodist Centre from 20 to 23 January 2025. Before boarding the buses, campers collected their camp merchandise in a warm and welcoming atmosphere and had a nourishing breakfast of tasty sandwiches. Then, Ministry Pastor, Pastor Steven Kum led a brief prayer for the youth.

The campers warming up on Day 1 with some engaging, interactive team activities

On Monday night, everyone’s anticipation rose up a notch as we were given a taste of what camp would look like over the next few days. We were uplifted by joyful and energetic praise, intimate and Spirit-led worship, a powerful and relevant message by our camp speaker, Pastor Rachel K. Bulan, followed by an impactful altar response. Pastor Rachel spoke on beholding being the transition from the old to the new. We learned that our “masks” often prevent us from truly beholding God as He is. We are to come to God as we are, surrendering completely to Him. Many young people responded vulnerably, letting their guard down, and allowing God to strip them of pretense, renewing their spirit within.

.... I realised that God knew my name, my pain, and my past. Despite my mistakes, He still loves me.

Camper Joanna Oh testified:
“For three years, I struggled with guilt, prayed for deliverance, and eventually lost faith when I felt God wasn’t answering my plea to deliver me from a certain temptation. Church became meaningless, and I paid no attention to sermons. However, on the first night, Pastor Rachel preached about the masks we wear to hide our shame. During the altar call, I poured my heart out in worship, apologising for my past. For the first time, I felt God’s presence, giving me the courage to sing and praise Him again. Nicole, an intercessor, whom I had never met, called me on stage. As I stepped up, tears filled my eyes. She prayed for me alongside Victoria, embracing me as I wept. Then, she asked about my struggles, saying God had told her a girl named Joanna needed prayer. At that moment, I realised that God knew my name, my pain, and my past. Despite my mistakes, He still loves me.”

Our mornings began with small group discussions over breakfast, where the youth mutually shared what God was doing in their lives at camp by reflecting on the previous session and supporting each other in prayer. On Tuesday morning, Pastor Rachel inspired the young people by sharing a message on being culture changers versus culture consumers, hitting hard against followers of Jesus living a double life.

On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, the Games Team took over to build a sense of comradeship and teamwork amongst individuals in their various groups, through a variety of station games. Due to the competitive nature of the games and the creativity, the youth formed new friendships. “Squid Game,” a standout station game allowed campers to play captain ball with a twist–using a fresh squid instead of a ball. This game is surely one to remember!

Our camp speaker, Pastor Rachel K. Bulan ministering in prayer and intercession on second night

Tuesday night saw a timely shift in the atmosphere as the Holy Spirit led the worship team to move from celebrating what God has done for us in Jesus to focusing on the Father’s unending and everlasting love for us. Pastor Rachel facilitated the time for campers to return to the great love of God, particularly for those who were broken and fatherless. We could sense the young people going even deeper. There was such an evident move of the Holy Spirit in the three-hour worship and prayer session that night, young people kneeling, tears flowing and genuine hearts crying out to God for restoration and wholeness.

One of our campers, Desiree Saw shared:
“I felt like it was just me and God in the room, and everyone else disappeared. More than half the campers’ expectations were met, and it was only the second day of camp. Though our schedules and Pastor Rachel’s message were thrown out of the window, God reminded us that He is in control and always has our best interests in mind.”

Another camper, Phineas Tan shared:
“I really wanted an encounter with God being a Christian all my life. After multiple camps, I felt replenished spiritually but deep down I always wanted to truly experience the presence of God. On the second night, during praise and worship, I started crying uncontrollably. Pastor Rachel prayed for me and I was overwhelmed. This prayer was different from the others I have received. I fell to the ground, unable to move for a while. Then I felt a surge through my chest and a hand touching me. There was a voice telling me to stop being afraid because I AM here. I knew it was God because who else showers someone with this much love? I am thankful for this opportunity and want to glorify the Lord with my life.”

On Wednesday morning, Pastor Rachel brought a message on “Save Me from Me”, showing campers that more often than not, the greatest obstacle to transformation is themselves. The final night’s session continued to carry the momentum that was built up throughout camp. After another anointed and intimate time of worship, Pastor Rachel felt the need to raise the faith in the room. Eight individuals with leg injuries were called up on stage and in faith, she prayed for healing, before getting the individuals to test their legs. On top of that, it was such a joy to see young people laying hands and praying for each other for healing to take place. Praise and thank God! The eight individuals on stage were either completely healed or felt significantly less pain.

One of the campers that was healed, Lew Yong Tong, testifies:
“Honestly, me being at Youth Camp was a miracle itself; despite all the quizzes clashing, transportation issues, and hard negotiation with my parents, God has made a way! And I just knew He wanted to tell me something in camp. I wrote in my expectations: ‘use me in ways that I have never experienced before’ and ‘heal my knee’. And God had answered both. On the first night, God pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I prayed for my friends at the altar. And on the third night, Pastor Rachel called for healing, specifically on leg problems and I went. And my knee felt better right after!”

When faith filled the room, Pastor Rachel moved on to call those who desired to be used by God in a special way to run to the altar and surrender themselves completely to God. In the process of surrendering, many young people were baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, set ablazed by the power of the Spirit. The session ended with the young people stretching out their hands in prayer for the youth leaders and our Youth Pastor, Pastor Michael Loon praying a declaration over Calvary Youth to spark a prayer revival.

We truly thank God for the great things He has done throughout the Youth Camp! Eight young people accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, 25 rededicated their lives to Christ, over 30 young people were baptized in the Holy Spirit and over 70 young people responded passionately when the call was given to give their lives wholeheartedly and single-mindedly to Jesus for His use, purposes and calling.

Before we knew it, it was the last day of camp. Pastor Rachel brought a wrap-up message to us on hearing the voice of God and teaching us how to sustain personal revival. Truly hearing the voice of God can only come about through intimacy, setting appointments to intently read the Word of God and spending time with God through prayer.

God exceeded the expectations set by the 180 campers in those four days and three nights. At Youth Camp, sons and daughters were called home to the embrace of the Father once again and the lives of the youth were reset by God, for greater, new things to come. As Pastor Mike kept reminding us before camp, “The revival of a movement starts with the revival of a person.” Revival isn’t just a moment, but an ongoing transformation as we behold and live in intimacy with God. May this generation be one of zeal and passion in knowing God and making Him known!

We greatly appreciate the prayers of the church leadership and congregation for Youth Camp and this generation of Calvary Church! We are also grateful for the pastors, chaperones and serving team and their utmost dedication and support in making this Youth Camp a success, for God’s glory!
