God's Rescue Mission
Pray, Give, Go
On the weekend of 6 and 7 July 2024, Calvary Church held its Missions Emphasis for the second half of the year. Service at the Calvary Convention Centre began with the choir taking the stage, dressed in various ethnic attire, demonstrating that everyone is of equal importance to God, no matter what their ethnicity.
At the main foyer, four booths were set up by the church’s ministries to raise awareness about missions and give updates on Calvary Church’s missions involvement, both locally and abroad.
The 10/40 window - a geographic region spanning from 10 degrees to 40 degrees of surrounding parts of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia where most of the unreached people live.
The 4/14 age window - identifies children aged between 4 to 14 who are highly receptive to spiritual and moral teachings.
Canada - One of the overseas ministries that we are supporting helps disciple youths of the First Nation.
Tanzania - We partnered with former Calvary members to equip a new church plant.
Thailand - The church supported the Royal Rangers International to reach unchurched kids in this nation.

After the praise and worship session, Pastor Steven introduced a video recap of Calvary’s missions work (January - June 2024). It showed how the church shared God’s compassion to meet social and humanitarian needs. From upgrading Calvaryland’s facilities to helping victims of cyclone Remal in Bangladesh, your generous missions giving has blessed many through receiving help both tangibly and spiritually.
Following this was an enthusiastic choir presentation of “We Must Go” in English, as well as in other native languages. Next came a thought-provoking message from our guest speaker with a heart for missions, Dr. Ivan Satyavrata titled, “God’s Rescue Mission”. He holds several key roles including one as the current Board Chair of the Centre for Global Leadership Development in Bangalore, India. In his message, he highlighted a parallel between the rescue mission of Queen Esther and our current mission.
Firstly, Queen Esther came alongside God in His rescue mission to save the Jewish people from total destruction. Cousin Mordecai gave Esther a compelling conviction that she was brought into her position to avert this crisis. Similarly, God’s rescue mission calls for like-minded people with the conviction that the gospel is the only hope for the world.
Secondly, Esther had to make a courageous choice. Her burden presented her with a formidable challenge: to get all the Jewish people to fast and pray for her three days and nights; for boldness to enter the king’s court without his permission (which meant a certain death) to plead for her people’s lives. Dr. Ivan mentioned that if we take a bold step in life, God will give us the confidence needed once we decide to lean wholly on His power and not on our own abilities.
Finally, Esther’s choice involved a costly commitment. She could have made excuses such as ‘why her’ or the crisis was too mammoth. However, she risked her life to meet the king. Dr. Ivan mentioned that it is never a great risk when we turn our life over to God and that it is safer to be in line with God’s purposes.
The missions service concluded with an opportunity for Calvarites to make Faith Promise Pledges to enable Calvary to continue to fulfil the Great Commission through Word and deed.
